TESTING SERVICES

VERTICAL TEST

 

This test method is used to determine flammabiliy resistance of cabin and cargo compartment materials when tested to the 60-second or 12-second tests specified in FAR 25.853.  Pass/Fail criteria for the vertical test is based on burn length, after flame time, and drip flame time.

 

 

 

CARGO LINER TEST

 

This test is also known as the 45-Degree Bunsen Burner Test.  The specimen is placed at a 45 degree angle to a horizontal surface.  The test determines the resistance of materials to flame penetration.  Results will record flame time, glow time, and whether the flame passes through the specimen.  The flame is applied for 30 seconds.

HORIZONTAL TEST

 

This test determines a materials resistance to flame when tested to the 15-second horizontal test specified in FAR 25.853.  Pass/Fail criteria is measured as an average burn rate. Acceptable burn rate is based on the material type and is specified in the FAR.  

 

 

 

60 DEGREE WIRE TEST

 

This test method is used to determine the flame resistance of electrical wire insulation.  Wire is placed at a 60 degree angle and flame is applied at a temperature no less than 1750 degrees F.  Pass/Fail criteria is based on flame time, burn length, and flaming time of any drippings.

Equipment and Specimen Conditioning

 

  • FLAME-TEK uses state of the art equipment.  Our conditioning environment was custom built to exacting standards.  It is capable of conditioning a large number of specimens at a consistent rate for quick turn around.  

 

  • Our Test Chambers are units specifically recommended in FAA's fire test handbook

 

  • Gas Supply is monitored per approved FAA procedure for consistent test results.

 

  • All lab instruments maintained to required calibration specs.

PART VI INSULATION TESTING

This test method is used to determine the flammability and flame propagation characteristics of thermal/acoustic insulation when exposed to both a radiant heat source and a flame.  Chamber is set to achieve a heat flux of 1.7 Watts/cm2 at the ‘‘zero’’ position.  Pass/Fail criteria is based on flame propagation and after flame time.
